What Raises Me Up

What raises me up to feel real again Old memories old friends old times in a blend Forgetting about those crushing blows That eat at you and that you try not to show For I have felt the strong heat of the furnace That we knew well and tried not to burn us And these faces that now catch you out At those times when they force their way out and about Did the knot in your stomach return to you then Knowing it something you could not defend And you wonder again in your head What could raise you up happily instead. © Paul Warren Poetry
