Notes About The Poem

2/15/2026 for What Poetry Soup Means To Me Poetry Contest sponsored by Tom Woody

What Poetry Soup Means to Me

If the sun shines on me or if it rains,
if I'm together or falling apart,
on PoetrySoup, I unload my brains,
on other days, unload my hidden heart.

Some days my judgment slowly starts to slip.
I then write on politics, I admit,
or try to get a laugh and lose my grip,
but here, no one calls me an idiot.

The sisters and the brothers on the Soup
who reveal thoughts and feelings in their words
comprise a supportive communal group,
lifting spirits, as from the wings of birds.

Poets like roses, each have their own name,
each different, but yet, each one the same.

Very nice tribute to this group of kind, compassionate, super-sincere wackos, David. ... Myself included, needless to say: Wacka-Wacka-Woo

For some reason that just reminded me of, back in 1978, when I introduced my friend to my roommate, Bill, and Bill said, "yabba dabba doo". My friend wondered if he was hearing right.

perfect sonnet; I especially liked the last two lines. Best wishes with this contest entry.
