What Love Means Was Liebe Bedeutet Que El Amor Significa

Written by Jack Horne and Gert Knop

Love’s soft petals fall
Leaving bare thorny branches
Heady perfume gone
But with care and attention
From one rose grows a bouquet

Zarte Liebesblüten fallen
Nur nackte dornige
Zweige bleiben Kein berauschender
Duft mehr Doch mit Pflege und Liebe
Wird aus einer Rose ein Bouquet

Pétalos de amor caen
Dejando lampiñas ramas espinosas
No más embriaga perfume
Pero con cuidado y atención
Crece de una rosa un ramillete

Love a blooming rose
Always flowering in us
And nourished by faith
A never ending story
A safe heaven for our soul

Liebe eine blühende Rose
Sie blüht immer in uns
Genährt durch Vertrauen
Eine unendliche Geschichte
Zuflucht für unsere Seele

El amor es una rosa
Floreciendo en nosotros
Alimentados por la confianza
Una historia sin fin
Refugio de nuestra alma

Jack, you and Gert did a super job on this collaboration! Love is often compared to a rose, but thorns are part of the package. I think it will be difficult for most readers to figure out which of you wrote each verse -- it flows so well. In some cases, the German is easier to translate lines and in others, it's the Spanish that comes through more easily. Thank you both for sharing this beautiful poem with us! Love, Carolyn
