-What Lies Ahead

Ageing sometimes overwhelms me

If l let my mind wander

The thought of life coming to an end

Negative thoughts l begin to ponder

In the dark of night these thoughts visit

Without warning or invitation

Thoughts of leaving or losing loved ones

Fills my mind and heart with dreadful anticipation

I know this is part of the ageing process

Familiar thoughts in that latter stage of life

A time of lifes true reflection

When thoughts of yesteryear runs rife

When these thoughts decide to visit

Distraction is the key

So , up l get with iPad in hand

To make a comforting cup of tea

I enjoyed reading your wonderful write. We never know what is coming. I wish I did. Many say, they do not want to know. I always wanted to be 21. I stayed 21 for many years, then turned 22 for many years, then turned 23 for many years. I am now 24. Hahaha!!! What a great age even if it is a lie. Hooray!!! Age is just a number. Be young/do Not worry about tomorrow. I will take a cup of tea then read or write something... Have a great/blessed day writing away...............

Dear Deb, What a great poem that asks the same questions that we all ask. The anxiety that it brings on whether we are worried about ourselves or someone close to us. Wonderful!! Autumn Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Familiar territory my dear Deb, could even add a few lines to this creative piece. But you see...such thoughts have been transformed into something beautiful and absorbing, giving insigjt into the experience of being alive. May you continue to work such magic. Cheers my friend.

Very true for many of us, Deb. Such a lovely poem, albeit somber poem. Thanks for the peek into your heart. You'll find many of us reflect on these thoughts. The ending is what I need to take to heart. Blessings

I guess it’s the human condition, that with awareness of our mortality we will contemplate it, possibly with increasing frequency as we age. We should all be grateful to those who live to extreme old age (ie well over 100) as, even as we spot another wrinkle, another grey (yikes - White!) hair… we can still look ahead in hope of many more years. We can never know… but we can hope. Nice write, Deb.

It's the great unknown Deb, we all look at our clocks to see is it nearly midnight. Yikes You're right though, distraction is the key and enjoy life while you've got your health. Tom

Dear Debx, what an honest and sincere poem this is, i felt this one so deeply! Especially “ Thoughts of leaving or losing loved ones Fills my mind and heart with dreadful anticipation” i guess it is part of seeing loved ones age too and more that makes me feel this way. You really always speak for me and yes distraction is the key and way: i hope you are doing well! Sending you light always!
