What lies ahead

As our breath renews
and the year ends,
we look ahead
with optimism
and with hope
but if we pause
the cause of such thought,
we look in within
and ask the question,
‘who is it that asks’,
freezing us in time,
since our awareness
never changes
even though we age
and our values shift,
as we flow through life,
so though we know not,
our single desire,
is to imbibe truth
of who we are,
which some call the soul
and others spirit
or non-dualists
refer to as Self,
being the light,
that illumines
our consciousness
moment to moment,
all moments entwined
in space-time.
