What Kind of Holiday

So much to look forward to
yet, for many, so much to dread

The turkey with all the trimmings
         the family gathered together --

      to fight over ‘party’ politics
or gorge themselves on ‘football pleasure?’ ...

Is it a chance to praise this nation’s humble beginnings
or to cleave us further asunder with senseless sinning

C’mon, America: Isn't Thanksgiving for praising the Lord
for recounting the finest qualities of humanity ~

Not for watching football, getting drunk or stoned
insulting and embarrassing each other, and other insanity

Amen Gershon. You have well articulated America in these days, not exactly the images painted in Martha Stewarts lovely magazines sometimes. I pray this is a peaceful day which I am somewhat fearful of. May we all be blessed. My husband is going to get the old camcorder set up for posterity of these fleeting days, hopefully for posterity reasons, everyone will attempt for true peace, love and respect of one another and thankful that we are in this free nation that gives us so much choice.

Amen, Gershon, you’ve penned this so well. More people should look forward to family gatherings, not dread them. Shalom :)
