What Is It With Crows
What is it with crows...
their reputation
before them goes
An omen of death
A murder of crows
These ancient legends
who really knows
if they are truths or untruths
Spirit birds
so I have heard
Keep a watchful eye
Ensuring your safety
As you live your life
Often said to be sent
by a loved one
passing to the other side
But which fate is mine
I haven’t a clue
A tad unsettling
Not sure what to do
For this crow now perched
Up on my roof
Is rather disconcerting
My head is now hurting
A majestic bird
Head to tail he is dressed
in funereal black
Caw cawing so loudly
Stood tall and proudly
Does his presence
predict my impending doom
Are we leaving this world
him and I very soon
Today he arrives on my balcony
He is perched very close to my door
Staring and still
Looking straight at me
Mesmerising or menacing
Well I'm not entirely sure
Now I begin to panic
Having felt unwell a while
What does he want to tell me
What’s he trying to purvey
If only he could talk to me
If only he would say
Is this it
Is this my day
My time to go
Does he really know
This wise old crow
I wish he would go
But just in case
I will live this day
As if it's my last
‘cos one day it surely will be…
Written 1st July 2020 as I keep a close eye on that crow...
