What Is a Poet
In older times the title we had was bard.
Traveling to other places could sometimes be rather hard.
Telling our short stories - hoping to see a smile.
Bringing happiness and tranquility - if only for awhile.
Poets are artists except we don't use paint.
We're doing something we love to do - perhaps led here by fate.
Poets get satisfaction when others they can help.
Makes our hearts skip a beat and give a little yelp!
There are many types of poetry - but I prefer to rhyme.
The bells inside my head do jingle and oh I love that chime.
Other poets mix it up with all kinds of variety.
Do what works best for you - making you joyful and happy.
People have said that poetry is a dying art - but I know that they are wrong!
With so much passion for our poetry we stand together tall and strong.
The poet is someone who knows the value of a word.
And knows how best to ensure that their poetry is heard!
