What If I Had Stayed

my best friend
someone who had always been there
you stood by me
and let me hide when i was scared
you knew my thoughts
you knew my heart
you would stand up for me
and i respected you from the start
but somewhere along that line
you stepped down
you changed your mind
and for the first time, i lost hope in you
you said you regret meeting me
and that might have hurt the most
maybe more than you leaving me...
now i walk through the hallway
with my head held high
dreading each time you pass me
each time you look me in the eye
i will go on
soon your memory will fade
and you'll be left with the question
"what if i had stayed?"

Wonderful write, Katie. And if this is real, I'm proud of you for accepting the fact that he's moved on..if you two are meant for each other, no matter how long it takes, he'll find his way to you...believe. Till then, keep learning about yourself and be good friends to others in need...God bless you...Love, Annalise
