What If
What if
Your arms weren’t shelter
And my happiest moments weren’t when our lips breathed into each other
What if
When I wake up everyday
You’re not the first thing on my mind
And our forever didn’t exist
And those children we talk about
Will never be born
What if we never get to dance as husband and wife
On that dance floor
In between swaying lights
As people cheer and clap everywhere
And I smile to you and say something
Then you smile and I laugh
What if we never endured all of the hardships to be together
And our souls did not ache
For each other
And all those longings erased
What if you didn’t have to travel
And our moments weren’t robbed of us
What if you were just a guy
And I was just a girl
And no Iloveyous were ever exchanged
What if we’d play this again
And everything was told differently
Would you have ever found me
