What If
An older brother once posed some “What If?” questions to me. My brother said to me, “What if you give your whole life to a God that does not exist?” My brother is among many who pose all kinds of “What If?” questions and other notions such as these:
No God; No devil; No heaven; No hell
No heaven to gain; No hell full of pain
No angels to help; No demons to harm
No Adam and no Eve; No serpent to deceive
No man made from dust; No God living inside of us
We all simply bite the dust; No final destiny for any of us
Everyone lives and everyone dies; No judgment day and no one fries
We simply finish the race; There’s nothing to face
The world keeps moving and turning, and people keep killing and burning
Today, we eat, drink, and be merry Tomorrow, there’s no Mary or Jerry
The Bible was written by man It's impossible to understand
Anyway, what is truth? Who needs absolutes?
I then said to my brother, “If it be true that God does not exist, I would have lost nothing; but if it be true that God does exist, then you would have lost everything.” So, my parting questions are: What if He doesn’t? What if He does? Are you sure? Are you self-insured?
