What I'D Like To See For America

A country where people help one another Where everyone calls the other his brother A country with less intrusive government Where politicians require the people's consent A country that respects its forests and lakes Where oil isn't spilled and the earth doesn't quake A country where light and life are revered Where killings and murders equal zero each year A country where progress is measured by love Where marriages flourish, where soft coos the dove March 08, 2021 - C What You Really Want Contest Sponsor: Richard Lamoureaux

Yes, I feel the same way, although maybe that's why each generation passes the 'torch' to the next one -- i.e., the older generation doesn't care to hang onto it anymore! :) gw

Congratulations on your fine win, Gershon! This so speaks of "we, the people." I really like the flowing, lyrical quality reinforced by your rhymes. Life and liberty GW! Blessings.

Hello Gershon … this was my Australia in the sixties. Now it’s gang violence and over governed. Just like the USA. Sad isn’t it Gershon - Lindsay

Maybe parenting changed too. I.e., my parents certainly weren't overprotecting me. Not so sure that I haven't overprotected my kids some. Thanks for the great comment, Lindsay

I remember that America, whereas my granddaughter can not even imagine Americans living in homes without locks on the doors! Nice write, Gerson! Aloha! Rico

How about an America where we rode our bikes wherever we wanted when we were 8 years old, packed a lunch, and stayed outdoors all day 'til it was dark. Those days are so long gone, eh?! Thanks, Rico. :) gw

It doesn't much matter which party I am. Either Trump loves me, or else he goes after me with a meat cleaver. Anyway, if elected, I refuse to serve. ~ Father Goose

I hear you, ilene. I imagine you may have held something back with the words 'a bit too optimistic.' So, here's where I'm coming from: I am fed up --- fed up! -- listening to Chicago Mayors and Police Superintendents talking about cutting murders/crimes by 10% over last years or some such pathetic outcome. Where are their goals?! If we don't shoot for the stars, i.e., zero murders, we'll never get anywhere. Who cares for a 'realistic goal' of 'only ' 500 murders, say, next year. Enough is enough. Let's go for the gold! :) gw

No, no, no. Do not withdraw, whatever you do. (I think you were kidding, but you never know). Last time somebody told me this, his poem was the #1 winner! Here's to ya! :) gw
