What I Used To Be

With these words I vow
That no man or beast
Will ever bring me down
My temper yields
Misconceptions of my true self
But now they will know

I've been cut down
Beaten and bruised, left bleeding
I stand idle
Addressing their remarks, abrasive
Still I attempt to change their views

I've let my anger
Loose on any man
Whose offended me once
Now it's not so easy
To bleed the violence out of me
They still see what I used to be

Insanely masked
Is their curiosity
I can tell it
They see something different in me
Yet they sstill ignore what I finally am
And focus on what I used to be
