What I Gave
I see a soldier over the rise
It's there my enemy lay
Startled, much to my surprize
Down the hill, a soldier in gray
With a steady pace, through the fog
The morning's mist a wall
A single shot, a barking dog
A voice in the distance called
My body's falling, no concern
A spinning sky, a soaring bird
A heart now stopped by the burn
Before my last breath was heard
What I gave, you ask of me
My death before I knew love
I took and oath, I couldn't flee
I died because account of
contest... What I Gave
