Notes About The Poem

Poem of the Day - 09/11/2020

What Have You Done

Dear humans, do you read me, I live in space,
Merely a being, sent by God, I'm all over the place.
I circle the world, live among debris,
You leave behind, you ruined your planet,
Now you want to go to Mars, so that you can
Pollute that planet in a few thousand years,
I have shed enough tears,
A millennium has gone by, and yet my fears,
Are much the same, not only the land you destroy,
But what of your beautiful oceans, you have caused
Global destruction, ice is melting, oceans rising
Lands worldwide are drowning, farms are flooding,
Mudslides send houses into never-never land,
We must do something, you all say the same,
Well do it.
Have you absolutely lost your sanity,
Your complete mentality in irreversible totality,
First think of your ocean life, ban plastic bags,
Deforestation must stop, this must be immediate
All trees are life giving, sustaining an all encompassing
Balance, animals lose their forests and move into
Suburbs, confused, looking for food.
You overpopulate,
Why three or four children, be grateful have one
Others so sad, as they have none.
Unemployment on the rise,
The poor have no chance of winning first prize.
You have brought about division between
Colors, creeds and nations, stop it, we are all
Brothers and sisters, please help the poor
Who come to ask for food at your door
Disparity of wealth crazy, billionaires now more
Than before, whilst the poor live under bridges
Or scavenge in garbage, shame on us, shame on us,
Shame on our governments, access to water is
Humanitarian, all should have access.
I therefore beseech you to do the right thing, be kind,
Be mindful, allow love to seep into your heart,
Don't risk becoming an inevitable mortal fatality,
Nurture your planets ozone deficiency, begin,
with healing your unhinged mental capacity
The beginning starts with you,
But of course, that you knew.

Jennifer- As I read my copy of "Reflections..." I mark the pieces I want to go back to or share. Your "What Have You Done" is the only one in the compilation with THREE check marks! Best - Ken

Your poem is impressive and expressive, Jenny. The many gifts of the Creator are being abused of, and there will come a time when this will come back to haunt us. ~ Congratulations on p.o.t.d. ~ Warm regards and hugs // paul

Thank you Paul It went on and on could have made it longer but stopped myself. We have abused our planet, some more than others, people of power do use the poor for manual labour and de-forestation and drugs are on the rise. Sad my fried, really sad Thank you Paul for an awesome comment. Warm regards and hugs, Jennifer. Jennifer

Excellent write my friend. What a pity that words of such wisdom merely fly over the heads of the ones who are the worst offenders. We all need to be made aware that the smallest act by one single person has impact. Great job. God Bless, JB

Jennifer, a fine summary of human behavior. The culture we have drifted to is not good. We need to show we cherish our home. I'm uncertain what will reverse the trend, but I suspect it is education, which includes an appreciation for poetry. I do know we live in very exciting times. We see the results and effects of all you described, and increasingly dramatic effects. For some reason, it is difficult for many to connect the dots.

You are so right Duke, but by the time they wake up and start connecting the dots, it might be too late. Any and every country you look at is at loggerheads or at war with another. There no longer is communication (Logical,) or dialogue (so Necessary), without dedicated and efficient leaders, we are lost. Thank you Duke for an awesome comment and thank you so much for visiting my page, I am truly honored. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Hello Jennifer … pollution is poisoning our planet and now there’s no such thing as a rubbish dump. Out of sight out of mind, and now realization is the oceans are being destroyed. I could have gone on but your poem has warned us. Greed with not succeed - well written Jennifer, thank you - Lindsay, and so deserved POTD.

Thank-you Lindsay, everything is going wrong, it seems that governments are not afraid that world war 111 will almost eliminate 75% of the world's population, destruction will be wide spread and yet now we have America tantalizing Iran again, China was not enough, scary stuff Lindsay. Blessings my friend, Jennifer.

Hi Jenn, I wasn't Souping much yesterday so I sadly missed your big day on the POTD throne, but I loved your writing - full of wisdom and concern for the ONE planet we are given. She is our Mother and we need to treat her with much more respect, not to mention each other. Your voice is an important one to hear; I am so glad you have the vehicle of poetry to keep that voice in front of people who need to hear it. Well done, Missy, and big 'ol congratulations! Hugs ~ John

You express some great sentiments which resonate with most of us in this troubled world. Maybe you might consider using longer lines, this thin form doesn't work for me. Enjambment can help many poems.A Being sent by God is an interesting perspective, and could, perhaps, open the poem. I believe it could be even stronger if you go through and keep only your best lines. Good luck!

Hi Jennifer many congrats on a very well deserved POTD with this thought provoking powerful piece. Regarding the comment below - once again I would question why someone who has posted 2 poems in 2 years ( plus 2 poems now removed) is actually on the site except to stir up the pot with nasty comments on poems and make puerile comments on blogs. I have him blocked perhaps others should do the same. Hugs jan xx

Sam what a wonderful comment - I feel very honored and how right you are that we should put God into our lives first and foremost and let people just be, whether brown, white, black, yellow, green, blue red or what ever, accept them for who they are - another human being like we are. I love your bunches of blessings and send you back bunches as well. Hugs, Jennifer. Thank-you again Sam, Jennifer.
