What Have I Done

Looking back on yesterdays
days of dying almost crying
Not so long ago I lay
looking for another day
doubtful times though they were
I looked forward for what was in store
And coming closer to the end of the road
I believed I had reached the final goal

Prepared to meet God I was
looking for glory and heavenly reward
Thinking of those who went before
waiting for me at heavens door
But looking back at my past was amiss
where was the joyful bliss
looking back for a job well done
What really had I overcome?

where are the foot prints that I leave the world
My outer greatness my flag unfurled
My winning way as chances I took
The things they mentioned in a book
who was I, the question asked
what was I, the given task
When was I behind the mask
And where does pride and confidence bask

Was I historical or metaphorical
to what we have today
Or was my departure just a going away
Hopes and dreams were not the answer
Wars I fought not being drafted
The change in the world that lasted
Was it really what I desired
was I the prophet the angels hired

These are the questions we all must ask one day... and only we can give ourselves the answers that we seek... This poem leaves the reader with much to think about... Great writing, John... Keep it up!

I am seeing Connie's note to you on this one. She had no idea how close she was then to the afterlife!

I believe we are all here to learn and grow from our experiences….growing closer to God. There is an afterlife where our spirits live on and it is nothing to fear, but a welcoming home. I enjoyed your reflective poem John. You never know how the little things you have done will help someone. Blessings xxoo

I enjoyed reading this bio, John. Not really knowing your life story, but knowing you are a good person, i am sure that anyone you inspired or helped along your earth's journey thinks only well of you and you will one day be with loved ones who went before.

Just had a long conversation with a friend who needed biblicall answers. I'm an expert at that.
