What Happens To Love

What happens to love when one moves far away?
Do first loves grow fonder or dwindle away?

What happens when new love becomes true love and two say “I do’?
What is it that happens to me and to you?

As the embers of new love burst surely to flame
The embers of old loves no longer remain

Life takes over; years roll by
Until new loves are old loves and then even die

Then where are the embers of love long ago?
Are they burned out forever or waiting to glow?

Voices unchanged, arms so eager to hold
Two lonely soul mates dare to be bold.

Old love becomes re-new love so fresh and now wild
Life again takes over; years slip quickly by
