What Easter Means To Me

the day is comming
and is almost here
that glorious sunday
of easter cheer

kids will be wearing
their brand new suits
with spring time colors
and looking cute

and sunday morning
they'll say their speech
little do they know
it's the first lesson they'll teach

the easter egg hunt
will soon pursue
colored eggs and candy
hidden from view

all the children gathering
for a special day
the real hidden treat
was jesus walking out of the grave

Rereading this poem about Easter that has the golden lines at the end... It reminded me of a story I heard the week after Easter that due to the rain outside the church building, the preacher alowed the kids to roll the Easter eggs down the aisles and chase eachother. I was flooored! ...Some of my most special days as a parent was dressing them up for this occasion. Now, I can't get em outta jeans and flipflops! Thanks for contributing to my first contest! Blessings to you! Gwendolen

T.S., did you know our president wanted injured soldiers to pay for their own medical treatment? It was in the Health Care Reform bill until Congress deleted the provision. Really got my goat!

Yes, children need to learn the real meaning of Easter, T.S. The egg hunts are just for fun. The rubaiyat is a series of quatrains with an aaba rhyme scheme. You'll find definitions of all the poetic forms by clicking on the "forms" link at the top of the page. That poem was written for a contest that stipulated 1-4 quatrains. Thanks for stopping by. Best wishes, Carolyn
