who leaves for a far-away place
To build a life with his new wife
to carve out space to run his race

You love too much to hold back
Yet try to tell him that
and your voice just cracks

who's made big plans
in whose happiness way
you never would stand
What do you tell such a son...
What do you tell a son
who comes crawling back home
on his hands and his knees
who says, "I failed, Dad.
Forgive me, please."
