What Do You Tell Such a Son

What do you tell a son who leaves for a far-away place To build a life with his new wife to carve out space to run his race What do you tell such a son What do you tell a son You love too much to hold back Yet try to tell him that and your voice just cracks What do you tell such a son What do you tell a son who's made big plans in whose happiness way you never would stand What do you tell such a son... What do you tell a son who comes crawling back home on his hands and his knees who says, "I failed, Dad. Forgive me, please."

Like Kurt I thought of the prodigal. This reminds me that God feels like this about us. :)

Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on my son. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. P.S.: Hi, poet. Long time no see.
