What Do You Have

I have a big, shiny new car!
Huh! What do you have?

                the man stands, his feet, his back
                aches, he worries about his family;
                can he make the rent?

I have a huge big mansion!
Huh! What do you have?

               the woman holds out her cold hand,
               she has no-where to sleep, it’s raining:
               severe mental illness was her gift.

I have a friend of a friend of a friend
Huh! What do you have?

              the old man feebly takes his prescription
              for his dying wife; his best friend.

I have so much more than you will ever have!
Huh! What do you have?

Compassion, dignity, love and most of all; the ability
to love!
