What Do They See?

The hardest part of being me
Is not knowing who I am
Am I good, decent, likable
Am I anybody’s friend

Am I just a human being
That desires goodness true
Or am I just a different one
That’s not at all like you

I write my heart and share it all
And expose my inner being
But when others look upon the man
What is it that they’re seeing

Do they see the man that is
A father tried and true
Or do they see a boy within
That knows not what to do

Do they see a writer
Who expresses his own soul
Or do they see a worried man
Whose life has no control

Do they feel the anguish
That I, do so try to share
Or do they think I am a man
That seems to be nowhere

I agree with everyone's comment whole heartedly. First, do not bother to worry about what others think. Second of all, and personally, I feel you have a huge heart, are a very talented writer, a loving father and I feel it would be an honor to call you friend. What I see is all good, just in case you wanted to know. A very introspective and honest write. Love, Shar

Michael, you write with the true hand of a poet my friend… allowing others to take an open view of your soul… I would not worry so much about how others may perceive me to be, I would continue to strive at being the best me that I could possibly be. In the end it will not matter what they may think for no one is perfect but the Lord. :-) Thank you for sharing such a very moving read. God’s Love and Many Blessings, Always, Adell

When all is said and done, does it really matter what "they" think? I think what matters is how one sees oneself, flawed, maybe, but striving to be better? Thought provoking and very introspective. Well done. Regards Heidie

Michael - What I see is a talented man who adores his wife and loves his family - God Bless and stay the person you are cause you are symbol of what a husband and father should be -

Well I for one see a brilliant, shining star - a sensitive, loving man in all regards, striving to be his very best at all he does, regardless of what others think. You hold these truths always and let your star shine for all eternity, Michael - so it shines brightly for all to see. Never change for anyone, Love Kristin :)
