What Did You Say?

When you have nothing good to say Why say anything at all Why not choose to be silent Instead of making them feel small If you can't say something helpful Would you please just button your lip Try to say something thoughtful Instead of shooting from the hip Plead the fifth amendment Don't give up your right Grit your teeth and hush for a while And close your mouth real tight Act like you didn't hear them Or maybe just look away Just tell them that your hearing aid died Instead of, "what did you say" Try to be kind to everyone you meet Without ever asking why Just because they might be rude Doesn't mean you have to reply
