What Did You Find

The old man smiled and told me his story
For eighty years he has spun his own tale
It may or may not end in his glory
But it's his own life if he win or fail

He had a good woman when he was young
Until she fell for a travellin' man
Her love was ended, his songs had been sung
And his life was as sand - just drifting sand

So he climbed the mountain and sailed the sea
As he searched for meaning and pleasure too
He went 'round the world unencumbered and free
And crossed the equator a time or two

"What pleasured you?" said I, "What did you find?"
"A piece of cheese and a bottle of wine..."
