What depression feels like

Ink bleeds from her pen as she struggles to cage the words that ache in her chest.
Darkness encases her soul as she struggles through the black dangerous waters of the sea that won’t allow her to escape or breathe. She tries desperately to escape and find the light through these dark, nasty, shark-hungry creatures that circle her nonstop, until they leave for good, until the next time they come back on a dark gloomy sad day. She cries out for help as she tries, desperately to stay above the surface before she sinks down into the gnarled twisted roots of the old trees that grab at her ankles, pulling her deeper into despair. She sees a break in the darkness that tries dragging her down into its depths so she heads for it and finally after a few long moments she finds herself back in the sunshine’s beautiful yellow light and the trees are bright, green, and vibrant with life. These tree roots are healthy and happy instead of gloomy. She notices how much different she feels when she’s happy and fun to be around than when she’s depressed and dead inside. She is bursting with life and happiness and joy!! She feels lighter and more freed and so she laughs in joy as she sees life’s beauty and happiness all around her in families, dogs playing and walking, children laughing and having fun together with each other, the happy parents watching them, the birds chirping joyfully and she hears the sound of peace at last, in love and trust and in her own family, who are all worried about her and are finally feeling happy that she feels so joyful and happy again.
Depression takes the fun out of life. Depressed people are unhappy and maybe sad. Depression can make you feel like you are in a black void.
