What Could Be More Important Than Appearance

We are all the same they brag So we can be friends I look at them One old one young One toothless, one with pretty straight white teeth One dressed shabbily, the other one a band box of beauty I know I am missing something. I am thirteen. I should be able to figure this out Surely nothing is more important than appearance

Yes, even adults don't get it right by judging people as worthy when they have surrounded themselves with glitz and glamour. We need to set a better example for teenagers in their formative years.

We surely do! I know we can. Let's start now.

Hi Caren, Society through the eyes of a thirteen-year-old. It is both full of contradictions and brutally honest. Nicely done!

I could care less. I used to care but the closer I get to seventy the more I let myself "just be me".

Ah, I think you figured it out, Caren, but a thirteen-year-old just doesn't have that intuitiveness yet.

Seems to be the most important thing at that age. Effective way of describing it.

It surely is and we all have to look and act and be "exactly alike" yet we want to be unique. WHAT???????

WoW! Caren, It's like I was reading a poem by a thirteen-year-old girl. Peer pressure and the media’s obsession with a superficial perception of beauty doesn't help a young girl trying to figure out who she is. Excellent job. Have a great day:-) Alexis

I have the mind of a 13-year-old girl some days, but other days I am only five.

Well-written poem. I pray those who read it reach the right conclusion, dearest Caren. Hugs xxx

Thank you Demetrious. Curiously the ones who read my poems are usually decades older than 13.

I have to show this work too a close friends 14 year old Daughter, who, as i write, is weighted down under clouds of doubt and depression, regarding Appearance is everything. Its a great observation and sadly a true fact.

I blame social media, magazines, blogs, and fashion advertisers partly.

Caren, A sigh illicited in this Verse., the awkward days of thirteen. The main misconception of outward appearances; keeping them up. Look for beauty where you will, it's also found in healed scars. -Richard

I fave'd this of course. Somewhere in this poem it hits you like a brick. I dunno why, dunno where, just does. After all, we were all thirteen once. -R
