Notes About The Poem

Weep Not For Withered Petals

Each day another velvet petal fell Like somber tears from weeping eyes A perfect flower was severed to quell It lay withering as it drooped and died Perfect flower, from bud to bloom Sweet-scented rose, it was no wonder That stifled in that sepulcher room You were enshrined, awaiting plunder Sadness lingers in me over your demise Withered petals are always a cause for pain But I'll remember you without tears in my eyes The memory of your fragrance shall remain

Lets start with the title. It's wonderful. The poem is even better, not to diminish other efforts, but it should no less than share top honors. At least it does on my rating scale. Congratulations Lin.

Let me be among the many who have welcomed you to the Soup. Your poem is beautifully expressed and worthy of our highest rating, a 7. Flowers start dying as soon as we pick them, but flourish when left alone to dance in the breeze. Blessings, ~~Darlene

What a warm welcome, Neva. A heartfelt "thank you." I've never posted any of my poetry on any site, so the feedback I get on Poetry Soup ignites my fire to start writing again. I took a break to make jewelry and return to painting. Maybe it's time to switch my focus ~ at least for a while. lol ~ Lin ~

Thanks, Julia. It's one of my favorites so I'm glad you like it. I'm honored to receive a 7, but can you tell me what the rating means? I've only been on soup for a little over a week and that number seems to be the highest score. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Merci! ~ Lin ~

This poem captures the understanding of time, and how slow it can move. Mystic is correct, there is something to hold in every line.

Thank you, Casarah. I really appreciate your opinion and kind remarks. I guess there's a reason why some of us press flowers in memory of their beauty. ~ Lin ~
