Weekday phone call to weekend split up
At dinner you sat
With phone in hand
Leaving no room for me
in your attention span
I got up
And came back
In active conversation you sat
With your friend on her phone
And a call on top of that
He came in a flash
Greeting you both
When he sat down for a peer to peer talk
I talked it up with him,
he was one of the guys
Someone I knew for telling boyfriends lies
We left and we hugged
He took you both home
Leaving me standing as if I had just gotten stoned
We talked only twice more
Once the next day
The second was was a whole other foyer
Two weeks later
You called seeking attention
An attempt that I gave zero exemption
For this was cyclical in nature
Where you’d mess up
Say something
And I’d make it better
But here I was done
I put my foot down
Breaking the cycle
Shooting you down
I wanted to wait
till after Christmas
But you gave me no choice
And i’m sure you think me senseless
But still it does stand
I was too understanding
I gave you everything
And you gave me nothing
And in the end
Tried as you might
To paint me the bad guy
So I allotted you that right
I meant every word that I said
From down in my heart
Because I was over tip toeing
I gave you words that were tart
From the bottom of my phone
I’ll read it aloud
Where I said: “... Good bye, for good this time”
You said “... Good bye and don’t even answer”
