Wearing a Hat

A hat can hide a head that's bald
Or one with unwashed hair.
It often makes the wearer feel
That he or she has flair.

Protection from the sun or rain
A hat can, too, provide.
The wind won't get to tresses
When a cap's tucked them inside.

Of late, I've started sporting hats
Of many styles and brims.
I choose the one that matches
What I'm wearing or my whims.

The only drawback that I find
Is when I'm dining out
Or in the theater where no racks
Or closets are about...

I have no clue where it should go
Or what to do with it,
So through the show or meal
Upon my lap it gets to sit.

A tiny price to pay, I think;
We go the extra mile
And suffer just a little bit
To strut around in style.

Usually ladies only wear hats at Easter... I know my ex would occasionally wear one and she looked quite fetching in it. Kids and young men wear baseball caps mainly, though I must confess I haven't even worn any hat for some time. My father always wore a trilby to church, or when we would go out for dinner. I have a poem along the same lines rhat I think you would really like! If you care to share your email address with me I'll send it along. Great job as always! Keith

I think this may be a hangover from the "Cat in the Hat" era.....or we can blame it on "The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins" ....."followed by the "no hats at the table" era....but the bigger question is ...."what to do about that HAT HAIR". Ilene this wonderful poem deserves a....."oh no!! he's not going to go there"--A TIP OF THE HAT.

I put my cap upon my knee and sometimes it falls off. Yeah it's quite a problem, what to do with a cap you doff.

it's funny, robert, i originally had the doff-off rhyme in my poem and then i thought that doffing only meant tipping the hat so i changed it. (i've since checked and found out i could have used it to mean take it off.) i love your rhyming comments!
