We Should Have Danced
Too much time working
stepping up the ladder at the job
the endless struggle toward the dream
when the future was everything.
All on hold in each attempt
seeking out the goals and future visions
where two beating hearts planned
that time and effort would provide.
It was a trick, a self-made delusion, a lie
shadowing the reality unseen
we had everything between us
all that we needed was right there in front of us.
It could all wait until tomorrow
Monday always began another week
the weekends - those Saturdays and Sundays were all ours,
together, we should have danced
