We Move So Fast

WE move so fast don't we
We human beings on the face of the earth
Poisoning as we go
The water we drink and the air we breath
Wildlife and nature be damned we want what we want
And the next of God's great creatures to bite the the dust
Is going to be the African elephant
As they are killed and butchered by terrorists for ivory
Ivory that will finance the madness of war
It is a dirty business cutting faces off elephants to dig for ivory
It is a dirty business when the baby elephants are shot or left to starve to death
Kind of like kids in America being shot as they go to and from school
And as sure as the sun rises and sets we better wake up America
The future dose not belong to us unless we care about such things
As clean water and fresh air
God's creatures and the children of the world
If we don't care about the poor and the rich
The weak and the strong
We shouldn't call ourselves Americans
And we shouldn't call ourselves God's children ether
If we continue to care only for our party, clan or family
The worm will turn till and the ugliness will be us
It's much wiser to play nice in God's garden
And at least try to take care of things while we are here

Michael, I think most poets fall in the category of the caring. We are sensitive and aware of feelings, beauty, creativity and so much more. If we all do what we can we can save these beautiful animals. They don't do well in Zoos. I loved the awareness your poem sheds on this heart breaking plight. Thank you.

Fantastic! A message that needs to be told and understood. You are very deep. I remember as a child my mother always told me to "play nicely" and that is true for adults too.

- I am so agree with you this poem, Michael!! - Very well written! - All we humans can reshape into money .... no regard for life or feelings - and that nature is important for all of us - even the next generation. - Thanks for the important thoughts!! - Have a great Sunday! - oxox // Anne-Lise :)

I love your spirit and how you feel so deeply about things. I had my students last year look up animals endangered. OH MY there are so many. I could not believe how few there are. At the rate they are disappearing, they will be obliterated very shortly. it's really sad.
