We Look At Them

We look at them with discreet
the loners that walk the street
we look at them in disgust
but for them to survive it is a must
we look at them and don't care to
understand
but all they ask is for a helping
hand
we look at them not understanding
their reality
but they are the reason we live in the land
of the free
we look at them sometimes not even with
a second glance
but all they ask is to have one more chance
we look at them not even considering how
much they lost
cause achieving freedom came with sadness
and unforgettable loss
we look at them as they settle down on the
footpath
but for them they have reason to smile or laugh
we look at them not realizing how much pain
they went through
but they know for the love of their country
will be forever true
we look at them unknowing to us their heartache
and feelings of regret
but now time to stand up and embrace our heros
being our courageous unforgotten vets
