We Differ and Thats Ok

You don't get it and that's ok,
My ink is different from yours.
Oh, you didn't get that joke,
It flew right over your head.

My meter must’ve been off.
My rhymes weren't right.
And all my punctuation
weren't quite right either.

You wonder if I heard of
spell check or Grammarly?
My ink is quite different
from yours, we differ.

 We all come from different
walks of life, my poetry is
 written from my experiences.

I may not get what you,
write but I will give you
 much respect, sometimes
 respect is keeping your
 mouth closed and opinions
 to yourself, it’s all about
 respect, what else do you
have if you can’t give that?

Oh tell it like it is Girlfriend. Well said. My feelings exactly. If you cant say anything good then don't say anything at all. Good stuff. God Bless, JB

Nothing is the answer Alexis, for no one should be disrespectful to other poets for how or what they write, we’re all different and have our own poetic style… Belle

Someone on soup deserves this, why even bother to write if you cant be nice - each one of us are Unique so we all write in a quite different way to one another, never try to change how you write - your poetry is loving and perfect. Hugs and blessings Jennifer.

WOW! well said Alexis, so true. I can relate to this completely. We are not in competition with each other, it is supposed to be a group of people sharing a pastime that we all enjoy. Not judging each other's abilities (or ink!) Respect each other (don't sweat the small stuff) Your Poem gave me a feeling of worth... Heartfelt thanks, Alexis... Respectfully yours...Shirley.

Three cheers for this poem, Alexis, and Amen, Sister!! We all have different b/g's and come from different cultures. So, instead of bickering about 'right and wrong' --- especially since 'poetic license' is a given --- we should be celebrating each other's differences, learning from each other and encouraging each other as much as we can. (And that's why I'M here on the Soup --- to encourage and to be encouraged. It sure works for me). THANKS AGAIN, Alexis! ~ Poetry Hugs, Gershon

Good one. It is good to try to find something good in each poem or say nothing. I enjoyed reading your thoughts on the subject. Your visit to my page was uplifting. Sara

Millions read the same words in the Bible every day yet come away with their individual interpretation of what they read . . . . .

Respect for others costs nothing Alexis, shame that many don't show it to others, their attitude is my way or no way, how wrong they are. Tom

You're right. Respect is important. If you have a good computer it should show you your mistakes.

It IS all about respect, Alexis. You're right, and I have trouble giving it to those who refuse to respect others. Good write.
