We Died Yesterday

*WE DIED YESTERDAY* Like an ox pulling a wagon Sweating and breathing Moaning at the load behind Is our minds, tired and wasted We believe in making a better tomorrow And perfecting a remaining today Forgetting the fight of yesterday That killed the better half of ours We claim to be heroes, Fought and won our freedom But a lie it is, we fear to face For yesterday, we fought and died Freedom is happiness Happiness is love Love is for the chosen few We, the rest, killed by our burdens We watch silently, As they kill our remains We cry tearlessly For the tears were wasted yesterday We died yesterday, As we struggled for freedom Not seen, not felt We died yesterday. *_Lewis Wamwanda_* *1/15/2019*
