Notes About The Poem

We Call Her the African Queen

We call her the African Queen
Because of her…..
There is a hesitation.
I have never known my friend to be speechless.
Beauty?
He nods.
But more than that, he tells me.
Charisma?
That too.

I am ready to despise this so-called queen.
This is a party with lots of people.
I do not have to notice or talk to her.
Then she walks in.

All heads turn.
It as if she is a magician who has waved a wand.
People are fawning over her.
There is such emotion in her eyes, I cannot look away.
It is as if I am seeing someone who just walked out of heaven.
Do you feel it? My friend asks.
I nod.
Too struck to speak.

Haha, oh yeah, been there before; it's an amazing phenomenon.

some women make a grand entrance while others enter quietly and slowly capture the whole crowd

And, if I'm guessing right, you spent the entire evening trying to get a word with her. Right? I would have.

I probably walked around watching her, taking notes.
