We Become the Mask We Wear

We Become The Mask We Wear Written: by Miracle Man August 28, 2021 We postpone serious matters until another day, then at some future sunrise we resume our fray. With each new day we face a daunting task, and things won’t improve without changing our mask. We’re the mask we wear on any given day, and often this mask our true feelings will betray. Finally we’ve lost all sense of just who we are, and have taken on the mannerisms of some czar. We proclaim we’ve tried but without visible trace, we can’t move outward from another’s space. When the fire that’s out, and cause misunderstood, we’re wasting matches trying to rekindle wet wood. “We all wear a mask, and the time comes when we cannot remove them without removing some of our own skin.” Andre Berthiaume

So true and so well-stated, Tom. I particularly enjoyed your last stanza because, as a poet, I find myself so often "wasting matches trying to rekindle wet wood." Great line.
