We Became Subservient
We elect politicians to office
They govern with our consent
but then they choose to ignore us
Suddenly we became subservient .
Any responsibility they delegate
and to their eternal shame
The policies they advocate
Mean the poor must bear the blame .
No one owes me a living
I must work to pay my way
but in this world I live in
Some can find no work today .
Some are sick or disabled
Others are pension poor
Our charity overseas is fabled
but we can't help our own anymore .
If you can work , You should work
Don't take if you can give
but if there is no work , You cannot work
So how are you to live .
Some of us have billions
Others barely ten cents
Children going hungry
To me that makes no sense .
I have no time for the idle
those who cheat we must detect
but those who are desperate cold and hungry
We must seek to protect.
