We Are a Proud People

We are a proud people, but not stuck up. We share what we have, and make do with what we don’t. Grandma Sun wakes us every morning We feel her presence before she arrives over the mountain. We call her Cheyenne Mountain in honor of our heritage. No one owns her. She is free like brother buffalo and sister deer. Our bounty is alive and well during the summer and spring moons. Father Moon takes us to the stars sometimes on hungry stomachs. No matter what we have or do not have, we share We share for Mother Earth shares with us. Father Sky gives us his stars gladly. Brother Stream replenishes our four-legged brothers and sisters. We share because sharing is what we are all about. We are a proud people, but not selfish, and not stuck up.

As a child, I wondered why "Anglos" saved and served the best for their VIPs whereas in Native American culture, the VIPS don't eat until everyone else, especially widows and orphans, have been fed. Still wondering . . .Aloha! Rico

I wonder so many things, Rico, and I often throw them into poems.
