Waterslides

Down, down, rushes the stream,
over the waterfall, down to the sea.
Down, down, rain from the clouds
leaps without parachutes: splat on the ground.

Secretly making a ladder in space,
the sunshine draws moisture back into the race.
And the sunlight that’s locked in the leaves of the trees
brings water from under to dance in the breeze.

Just as the kids at the water-slides climb,
trudging up ladders to whiz on a ride,
so the droplets of water rise back to the heights
to re-live the joy of their downward delights.

One more delightful write/read from your talented pen. I love the way you take me back to my childhood --- and then show it to me in a unique new way. Thanks a million, Gershon

What a lively, imaginative explanation of the water cycle. The waterslide comparison makes evaporation and rainfall immediately accessible for young readers, and phrases such as “leaps without parachutes” and “downward delights” bring real playfulness to the science. The recurring downward motion gives the poem a buoyant, rushing rhythm.

Appreciate your reading and comments. I think it's a class science topic in Year 2 - Mum used to teach it.
