Watered-Down Juice

Oh, dreams of my youth – a magical stream -
you flowed without end. You flowed night and day.
I dreamed as I slept, but also I’d dream
while walking to school! you’d not go away,
but in all of my dreams, hope was agleam.

In dreams of my youth, my heart how it beat
when you flowed unto me – sweet cherry juice.
I’d think of the man that one day I’d meet
Sublime were my fantasies . . . and profuse.
With my prince I would find a joy complete!

Dreams of my youth, time has taken its toll.
How foolish are dreams of young girls anyhow!
I no longer dream when out for a stroll.
Mere watered down juice are those old dreams now . . .
though butterfly hopes still flit in my soul.

This is so true, but I had not thought of this for a long time. "also I’d dream while walking to school!" I used to spend my school days in daydreams, in order to survive the humdrumness of them.

That's a great truth you told in those last two lines. The juxtaposition resonates with me, for sure. Super contest entry, Andrea. Here's to a big win. Ciao, Gershon

Yes, those butterfly hopes... I still dream and breathe my share of these blessed inspirations... like a caress touching the spirit, they enhance the moments I'm living. God bless you with a win, dear Andrea.... This is enchanting.

Dreams are so sweet especially about love. And especially in youth--a form of imagination that keeps hearts fluttering. Keep dreaming, Andrea--even when you are out on a stroll.

Fragility of those teenage dreams.. .I can relate to this.. those dreams are teen magic... they water down or vanish when time takes toll. Your last line gave me a smile.. Apt for the contest and best wishes dear Andrea. Hugs ~ Ani

Oh how our mind wanders in our youth, it proves you have an active mind that prepares you for adulthood. Tom
