Watching Sunlight
sunlight was a brightly
colored calico cat
we had when i
was little
i watched her birth
four kittens
i saw her clean them
and nudge them to their feeding stations
she looked at me
and blinked
i watched her raise them
she cleaned, fed,
played with,
batted, or purred them up
when they needed it
at the time they
needed it
(immediate
appropriate
response)
i grew up, myself
i worked with children
i worked with adults
i had two children of my own
i found that
sunlight’s
advice worked
