watching Buddy

my big dog’s tail curls up
he is a great Dane German Shepherd mix
no small soldier
he marches the perimeter of the fence with intent
Resolving to do something
take prisoners maybe?

I watch his struts in amazement
He is a wonderment to me
a dumped dog who became our boss
there is no barking
a ladybug lands on my notebook
I realize the meadows and woods are strangely silent

my dog has disappeared down the hill
I hear the dog flap sound
he is inside with the air conditioning
this is proof there is clearly no threat
attacks non-eminent
