Watchful of the Night
The earth has put itself to sleep
With the darker side over me
When most lay still sleeping for the night
I wake with eerie noises to my delight
Arousing my interest in lurking about
Darkness of the night and sprout
With my long sheer gown
Dragging along on the floor
I stood at the window watching for more
Cool air whispers over my head
And the pages flip of the book
I just read
Candles light my way
For this is when I rather stray
The other side of me has come out to play
With luminous eyes and glazing lips
The moon is moving to be eclipsed
Fast moving clouds that ride along the sky
Knights on white horses with that look
In their eyes
Scattered leaves flying through the air
As I reach out and let down my long hair
Wiry branches lay empty and bare
Strange sounds from the porch
Of the rocking chair
Thick walls of fog creep in like a cat
And old man is walking by
Wearing his tall black hat
The earth has put itself to sleep
With the darker side over me
Longing for the time
Of the unlit jubilee
