WAS IT FATE

Sam’s football coach told him two college scouts were coming to see what he was about. Starting his car, Sam freed a whoopee shout. Coach was sure he’d impress, said there's no doubt. Mom will be thrilled, first a store to buy trout; a mom request he wished to carryout. Two months pregnant, the doc calculated. Sue left the doctor’s office elated. After four years of living frustrated, she and husband tired of options debated. This news and joy to ensue dictated a store stop that his fave meal be plated. His sweet wife had not caused their division. Him saying she had caused more derision. For both of them he’d made a decision - admit addiction, make that admission and find rehab skilled in sober missions. First, stop for flowers to lift her vision.
EVENING NEWS Gunshots and screams had law enforcement’s eyes and guns locked on a local grocery store late this afternoon. Sources say, when the hellacious sounds stopped, the gunman came out of the store and continuously shot at the police until a fatal shot took him down. Three store employees were fatally shot. In addition, two unidentified people were killed; a woman estimated to be in her early thirties and a man in his forties who was holding flowers. A life ending bullet also struck a local high school football hero. More information on the gunman, victims' names and other details will be reported when known.

Cay Cay, such imagination! I am so pleased it wasn't true. Having said that, worse things do happen in real life.

Dear CayCay, Ahhh such a gut-wrenching, remarkably structured narrative poem that hits with the force of a sudden, shattering physical impact. I believe that by contrasting their bright, hopeful futures with the cold finality of a headline, you’ve captured the tragic fragility of human life with immense power and lingering heartbreak. Oh CayCay, what a deeply moving, unforgettable contest entry, Blessings, Daniel.

Oh wow. Very dark. But also a fascinating read. I had a feeling they would die. For some reason I was thinking the two would hit each other in a car accident. Instead it turned out to be a horrible gunman and a "wrong place at wrong time " story. Cool how you took the theme of fate with "in the stars". Great narration. Maybe you are getting used to shows like Whisper Man. I watched it tonight as you suggested! Good movie but I was tired and kept dozing off!

Looks as if you have another career ahead of you as a 'crime scene reporter' for the local news outlet, CayCay. Quite the piece, this!

Oh, my God, this is awful, what is with the world today? This is so sorrowful. How consoling of you to write, and I hope the victims' families will somehow see this. Love,

Oh, thank you for the reply! I am so glad this isn't a true happening. I am embarrassed now, but would rather be embarrassed than be sad about something like this happening. x

Oh, Paige - THIS IS FICTION, PURE FICTION written for the 'In The Stars" Contest. I will note that so no one else takes it as true. I regret unintentionally causing you upset. CayCay
