Was it all a Lie?
They told me,
“Get over it—
It wasn’t that deep.”
But how can shallow waters
drown me in my sleep?
I loved him—
with the kind of love
you feel in your ribs
when laughter turns quiet,
when silence feels safe,
when just breathing beside someone
feels like home.
He said it was fake.
Said I was just easy—
a toy for his boredom,
a name he’d forget
like a number in his phone.
He told me he never cared.
He said he never loved.
But if it was all pretend,
why did he hold me like I mattered?
Why did he whisper forever
into the space between our mouths?
Why did his eyes soften
when I cried in the dark?
Was I blind?
Or was he just good
at lying with a straight face?
And maybe I should’ve seen it.
Maybe I stayed too long
with someone who never stayed at all.
Maybe I loved too hard
for someone who never planned to love at all.
But tell me—
is it weak to feel
when you’ve been made a fool?
Or is it brave to love
even when love lets you down?
Because I’m still here,
grieving what might’ve never been—
and still,
my pain is real.
My heart broke for something
that felt true
to me.
So don’t tell me it wasn’t deep
just because he didn’t drown.
I sank in it.
I lived in it.
I lost in it.
And now—
I rise from it.
One breath at a time.
