War In the Trenches

Men and boys answered the call Some returned home, others did fall Young volunteers' thought an adventure it would be Older ones joined up to defend their country. Constant bombardments' all night and all day No place to hide, they just had to stay Stuck in the trenches with mud knee deep Explosion's and gunfire, no chance could they sleep. Some were injured and they sent them away Others not so lucky and they died that day Conditions were atrocious, with fire and rain With disease and vermin adding to their pain. Freedom they bought us but paid a heavy price And they'd do it again, they wouldn't think twice But we live in a land now that's happy and free And we remember the sacrifice they gave for their country.

The life of soldiers in trenches is so frightful and miserable. They live in constant fear of getting killed anytime. These people guard our country and ensure us our freedom. We have to bow our heads in great respect when we think of the sacrifices they undertake. Great thoughts dear Tom.

Thank you very much Valsa, sometimes wars are necessary to defend a country and many put their lives on the line to defend it. But it comes with a price the loss of life or PTSD. We must never forget their sacrifice. Tom

Whatever these men were compelled to endure is a nightmare that cannot even be described. Our lack of appreciation for such expenditures that have been made to ensure our liberty is entirely reasonable.

Thank you Lasaad, have read many stories of the first world war and conditions were atrocious. Many were young boys made to believe it was a big adventure. Tom

Jan, Sadly, sometimes they are necessary to protect us from evil dictators. But the horrors some must see you just cannot imagine. Regards Tom.

Your right, we take so much for granted but if they had not made the sacrifice things would be so much different. But if we look the other way then evil will triumph. Regards Tom
