Walking

WALKING Gravel beach walking is noisy - Small shells breaking, all empty. Grind tiny gravel, stones flying out; Pound small sand to finer grains. Looking back you see no marks in the beach, No trace of footsteps, in the aggregate. On a sandy beach, no footfall noise - Sand turning to dust in your tread. But look back and mark A clear path of tracks From the very beginning of your journey. Yet the silent sea erases all : Soon gone forever. Only lugworms and hermit crabs Are unaffected by the tide. ....................................
