Walkabout
The early morning rising of the sun
comes quiet and stealth like
high up in the tree tops.
Long before the dawn, birds sing out
welcoming, greeting the new day.
Creatures great and small awake
to participate in the thriving life of the garden,
filled with lush flowers perfuming the air.
Suddenly blinding, the sun appears
high in the powdered sky, brilliant burning hot.
A sultry May walk about along the garden edge
mystifies and awes the eye, blessing the morning
with unimaginable blossoms of color and fragrances.
Content, marveling at the revelation
of bounteous growth, I pause.
Breathing deeply in, I take it all in
with its hopes and dreams and promise of life
and its splendor and magnificence
I am filled with gratitude
that I am caretaker to this miraculous gift of God.
