Waking Dream
They don’t crucify prophets these days
I told the man in my waking dream,
They have more sensitive subtle ways,
They call them rehabilitation schemes,
Talk until you suddenly find
They present you with their plan
To mould and change your mind
And make you a compliant man.
Their slogan is of free speech
To walk the party line or brother
You become outcast social leech
In a state that quickly smothers,
Buries you in modern toys,
Lures you with possessions
A world of synthetic joys
And selfish obsessions.
The eleventh commandment rules.
The other ten mean just naught
In a sheer simplicity that fools
Thou shalt not get caught.
Don’t need crucify the prophet today
Just make him question his self worth
Or the ultimate modern way
Make him an object of mirth.
No they don’t crucify prophets these days
Maybe expose them on prime time tv
Where the media guru has his ways,
To harass and humiliate there for all to see.
