Wake Me Up For School
Beep, beep, beep.
Said the bird.
It’s just like when I would wake up for school…
When I lived in the real world.
Of windows that open, and parents that will call for me.
But I’m not in school I dropped out and failed and something happened and now I’m here…
I’m drifting in and out in and out.
It’s like- I can sort of see things, but I wonder if they can see me?
Like a ghost, but I can’t go through walls for some reason.
I don’t really care, anyway.
Because I’m going to cry in these halls! I don’t care if I’m not really a ghost and I’ll have to face my parents after this catharsis…
I’m on the phone with them, I think.
So their voices sound different.
But everything sounds different.
Echoing.
Screaming.
Beeping that turns to birds chirping on a school morning.
Like when I was in school.
Remember mom?
I was in school.
And now I’m not.
