I traveled a thousand miles with memories,
of bellowing frogs and their serenade
and the flat stones we sat on,
that gave no comfort
Leaves from an oak brushed and filtered rays
from the moon, filling each curve and hollow
of you
My eyes spoke every word,
yours answered with a smile
Twenty long years ago
The days counted between have ended
and the memory of you in a summer dress
stayed
I arrived late, the crowd had left,
their footprints visible in the freshly dug soil
The stone above your grave read
" SHE WAS A GIFT TO ALL "
Something I had said to you long ago
I planted an oak sapling where you lay
and then... said goodbye
I'll return one day, sit in the shade of this tree
and close my eyes, to sleep
